FAQ's

Caution - Man running (with) power tools

Q: Are you going to leave the airplane painted blue with silver stripes?

A: Nope, the blue is a plastic protective film.  I have had to remove it prior to driving rivets and priming, thus producing the stripes.  At this point I don't know what color I'll paint it.

Q: Do you know what your "N" number will be?

A: I have reserved N941WR (Pronounced "November niner four one Whiskey Romeo" in aviation speak.) with the FAA.

Q: What is a Cleco?

A: A temporary clamp that is used to hold sheet metal together.  When squeezed with cleco pliers it sticks out a small tongue that gets "fat" when release.  After drilling a hole in two pieces of aluminum you insert a cleco to hold them together until they are permanently joined with rivets.  They come in different sizes and are color coded depending on size.  You see them holding together various structures throughout this web site.

Q: I see you have drilled all sorts of holes in your work table to hold "stuff" together with clecos, aren't you worried about ruining your work table?

A: Nope, I built the table out of 2x4's and rabbeted the edges so it will hold a 3/4" sheet of particle board.  When and if I completely destroy the work surface I will lift out the old sheet and lay a new one in place, no tools required.

Q: When do you expect to finish the airplane?

A: Five years from whenever you ask.

Q: How will you get it out of your basement when you are finished?

A: My house has a walk out basement with a 32" door.  I'll have double doors installed, remove the wings and tail of the airplane and take it out that way.

Q: How do you plan on equipping it?

A: For day and night VFR flight only.  IFR equipment might come later but let me getting it flying first.

Q: How much are you going to spend on this project?

A: Not very much, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Q: Will you accept donations to speed the construction?

A: Duh!  Either cash or help bucking rivets will be graciously accepted.
